We’ve all been through it; the season(s) in our lives that felt seemingly cold and impossibly long. Not always harsh, but always resulting in a restlessness for something new. Many times what we can’t see during those seasons is the vitality waiting to spring forth. Beneath the visible, under the heaviness of winter’s snow, fall’s matted leaves, or the complexities of humanity, are buds of life, quietly incubating beneath the hardened ground. So we wait and watch, hoping to witness even a glimpse of color cut through the monochromatic, and trust that what has been germinating all along will be sown into brilliance.
These paintings hold the tension between what is and what’s to come, highlighting the tenacity of transformation and life. Through the juxtaposition of color over the rich textures of lights and darks, it is an abstract depiction of winter moving into spring, but also a representation of subtle and patient hope emerging from unexpected places.
